Most of us dont think of our credit cards when were looking to make the most of our holiday spending budgets, but that just might be the place to find great savings and even cash back. With more credit card companies looking to earn your business, theres a good chance youll have several offers to choose from that end up making 2012 one that doesnt include as much credit card debt.

Parents of children heading off to college should take that opportunity to review insurance policies to see what may be already covered, what may need additional coverage and what discounts may be in store, says the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.).

For example, some standard home insurance policies will provide coverage for a student’s personal possessions away from home if the student lives on campus, the I.I.I. said. Some of these home policies do limit protection to a certain percentage of the overall coverage amount for personal possessions on the policy, but some level of protection may already be in place nonetheless.
